Oh oh oh!! I love all the "British Inspectors" -- Morse, Lynley and Barnaby!!! While living in Singapore I've been introduced to all three and I just love them! We watch them on the TV there, but guess what I discovered!? Netflix has them =) The complete 39 DVD set of Inspector Morse sells for a mere SGD$750.00 (about $580.00 USD) ....welllllll.....since I'm NOT going to spend that kind of money on ANY set of DVD's, I'm more than happy to watch them on Netflix.
Try 'em --- you'll like 'em =-) I just watched 2 'instant' movies on my computer -- and received 3 more in the mail box -- cool =-)

How do you "restore the future" ??
That's what Sen. Edward Kennedy said ?? He wants to 'restore the future' -- how do you restore something that hasn't happened yet ?? hmmmmm
Mrs. Barak Obama spoke, too, introducing her husband from a "husband and father" perspective. Sounds like a nice man - a good man -- but a President of the United States?? ...well, I won't comment further.....I'll watch as much of the Demo. Convention as possible, but I won't ever vote Demo. -- I'm not sure who to vote for, actually -- I guess I'm what they call a 'swing voter' (SWING not swinger!!!!!! golly folks!)

OWIE~~with updates~~
~~update #2~~
went swimming today, after taking a break Tuesday to rest my foot (though I don't exactly call walking around shopping a 'break' -- hehe!) Anyway, I swam without the brace, and my foot did JUST FINE!! yeah! There is still some soreness there, but no real pain - I will continue to wear the brace through the weekend, just to be sure, but I'm amazed at how fast this sprain has healed - do you think that it might have something to do with the fact that I'm at least a little more physically fit that I was even 6 months ago? My system is able to work better? Of course, I give plenty of credit to the angels too =-)
**UPDATE**
hey! you gotta view this "in the order received" to get the proper perspective =-) see below for the new pics and comments....
Notice anything funny about my foot?
The nice swelling and slightly bluish color around the ankle??
Oh nice looking ;)
I was going to go to my water aerobics class today!
I actually did go....was walking into the pool area, realized that my sunglasses were still on
my head, turned around to put them in my bag hanging on the hook -------and
AUGH! I slipped!!! -- not very gracefully, either. I landed with my right leg folded under me and the foot folded the wrong way and heard a small 'pop'
I tried to do the class, but 15 minutes into it, I realized that the ankle was really hurting, so I went to Urgent Care, they x-rayed it -- no break, just badly sprained.
I don't really like this brace, because it doesn't really hold the ankle still. Because the bone wasn't broken - that's good -- except that it will take longer to heal!! I'll still try to do the water class though - wish me luck =-()
**UPDATE**
Here's a better picture of the bruise -- it's much more pronounced today, but oddly and happily, it's hurts much less =) I guess icing it for 1/2 hour and taking 600mg of Aleve every 12 hours did the trick!
I really didn't like the brace the doctors office gave me, so I went to Walmart and got one that supports from alll directions. It's much more comfortable and I can't move it at all in any direction -- it costs $15.00, but who cares when you can walk and sleep with no pain =-)
And you know what else?? In the course of the fall, I bashed my hand, smashed my elbow and tweeked my back!! But guess what!?!? nothing else hurts -- Guess a group of angels were with me afterall =-)

It's started!!!!
Here is what the house looks like today....the siding has all been ripped off. The back porch overhang is also gone and will be replaced. The electrical work and insulation will be done while the siding is off. The siding and new gutters are the last things to be replaced. PRAY for sunny, dry weather =-)
The first picture you see is the big shop that is behind the house -- it had significant dry-rot in the siding at ground level, on the backside, which gets all the rain and not much sunshine. They are also going to re-grade the ground behind this building, so that the wood will no longer be at ground level. The shop will also get a new roof to match the house and the 4 skylights will be re-flashed (one was leaking)
I'll try to keep you all up as our house goes through all the repairs that have been so long neglected.

Happy, Happy Birthday!
Today there are two special birthdays to celebrate -- my girl, Sarah who is 22 and my 'monster' Julian who is 6 -- soooo, do any of you remember the day Julian was born??
It was Sarah's 16th birthday - a BIG day - and I spent the day at the hospital with Livvy and Tim, "helping" her give birth to her first baby - Sarah was home chomping at the bit, 'cause it was the day of her BIG birthday party - and we'd had to 'call a stall' on the party, in case Livvy went long into the night -- But Livvy gave birth to Julian Scott at 5:35 PM-ish -- and the party was ON BABY!! What great timing! -- two great events on one special day - phew! wahoo! =-)
What a day! Happy Birthday to you two - I love you both so much =-)
AND LEST WE FORGET - Julian's mommy's birthday was only 5 days ago on August 10th!! Happy Birthday to you, too, Loo

Beijing Opening Ceremonies
Oh wow!! I hope you all had the chance to watch the Opening Ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics - what a stunning, spectacular event. Perfection! The Most Beautiful I've seen, ever. I hope they will have a DVD of this event! I'd like to watch it again and again! Wasn't the torch lighting emotionally moving?? wow!
And, between now and when we leave Singpaore in May 2009, we will be traveling to China to visit Beijing (Forbidden City), Xian ( Terracotta Warriors) and Guiling (told to be the most beautiful river scenary in all of China) - I'm so excited!!!
Christina -- Sweden just walked into the Olympic Stadium in Beijing! yeah, Sweden!!! Someone I know (wink wink;) ;) is DVR'ing the Olympics - and I'll get a copy! so cool!
~~~***... AND ...***~~~
It's official =-) I will be returning to Singapore on October 7th. The change has been made to accomodate these needs:
1) The refinance will not be finished until the end of August, and that's just too close to the previously revised fly date of September 2nd -- if there were to be any glitches or changes, etc., I would not have enough time left to make them while I was here;
2) though my mom's colon cancer seems NOT to be an issue (her tests came back clear) she is still failing in health;
3) Bryan will be here in the US the last 1-1/2 to 2 weeks for business in Wash DC and taking a trip to Utah to see his mom during the time of his birthday, 30 September. He suggested that I just stay until he, too, flies back to Singapore on Oct 2nd, and I was able to change my flight to Oct 7th. (had to stay with the same day/time to have no charge for the change =-)
in the good-ole summer time....
Until such time as I can figure out why my pics from my Nikon won't download, the following pics are from my Canon. enjoy!
One of the things Emily, girls and I did was to go to the "Flavel House" in Astoria, OR. It's a beautiful, turn-of-the-century house built by, nother other than........ Mr. Flavel. He was a shipping magnet in the Columbia River trade, and up and down the Pacific coast, among other endeavors. He married his 14-year-old bride and they had 2 daughters and 1 son. The 11,000 sq. ft. Victorian-style house, which cost $37,000 to build & furnish, in our dollars and is now owned by the state of Oregon.
Our last party in honor of Julian, Olivia and me (Laurie) while Emily and her girls were here. George and Lynnette were along, too, of course. It's theme was Spidey - lah. All of our birthdays are really in August, so we'll get another party - good planning huh!?!?!? hahe
these are my new 'dreds' folks!! hehehe
Vampires and Werewolves
I've been bitten =-) It's fun! Today I started the 2nd book and I'm already 1/2 way through. Livvy went to the 4th book release party last night at Barnes and Noble and says she had a great time - look at her blog for some pics, etc.
On ABCnews.com I found a quote that was included in the Stepenie Meyer book release and movie clip. It is a quote from Edna St. Vincent Millay.
"Childhood is not from birth to a certain age and at a certain age The child is grown, and puts away childish things. Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies."
